Let’s be real: running is often a solitary act. Whether you are pounding the pavement or kicking up dirt on the trails, it’s usually just you and the miles. But I’ve learned over thousands of training miles that we aren’t meant to do this entirely alone.
I’m Mitz, and I’ve spent the last 20 years transitioning from struggling through a 5K to pushing my limits in 24-hour ultramarathons. Along the way, I realized that the “pain cave” is a universal language. Whether you’re chasing a belt buckle or your first finish line, we all face the same truth: preparation is the only thing that guarantees you get home to run again.
Community as a Tool for Success
I’m launching the RunSafeGear: The Proving Ground Facebook group because I believe community is a tool. It’s a place where we share our wins, our “never again” moments, and our Vision of Safety.
Safety isn’t just about a product; it’s about a collective mindset. When we share stories of what went wrong—and how we fixed it—we all become better prepared. Every person who heads out for a training run should expect nothing less than to return home safe and ready for the next one.
Equipping the Mission
While the community provides the wisdom, RunSafeGear.com provides the direct access to the gear that survives the miles. I only vouch for what I’m willing to put through the “proving ground” myself. On the site, you’ll find the essentials I rely on for my 2026 12hr and 24hr ultra-marathon goals:
- Hydration Packs: For those long stretches where “running dry” isn’t an option.
- Headlamps: To turn the 3:00 AM dark into a clear path forward.
- Reflective Gear: High-visibility tools for when the road gets busy.
- Personal Defense: Because peace of mind is part of the kit.
Who Am I? I Am You.
I’m not an elite athlete. I’m a runner who refuses to give in. I’ve been in the freezing mud of Iceland and the heat of Nevada. I’ve questioned why I do this at every single race, and I know you have too.
I want to hear your stories. I want to see your goals. And I want to make sure we all have the gear and the knowledge to stay safe while we chase them.
Run Safe. Be Safe.
Preparation for success.
— Mitz
